Fasting in the Allgäu

A week of Buchinger fasting for body, mind and soul

Fasting in the Allgäu

What is Buchinger Fasting?

Fasting according to Dr. Otto Buchinger is Europe's best-known form of fasting. During the fasting period you consume only vegetable broths, freshly pressed juices, teas and water. Many fasters report greater clarity, better sleep and a new body awareness. At Aktiv Hotel Schweiger we accompany you through the whole week with a set programme. One thing up front: our fasting week is a course in “fasting for healthy people” and not medically supervised therapeutic fasting. Participation is at your own responsibility.

Our Fasting Week Program 2026

Our Fasting Week Program 2026

Our 2026 fasting week runs from 17 to 23 October, arrival on Saturday — six nights in a single room with balcony, from €999 per person (visitor's tax charged separately). The week is led by Natalija Vuković, a medically certified fasting instructor of the Akademie Gesundes Leben, including preparation and follow-up. The programme includes six guided hikes around Bad Faulenbach, daily morning exercises plus one session of yoga or qi gong, expert talks on fasting, nutrition and breaking the fast, and free access to the sauna, steam bath and Aktivarium. The quiet setting in the Faulenbacher Valley, surrounded by four mountain lakes, does the rest.

The five phases of Buchinger fasting

Buchinger fasting is not starving, it is a sequence with clear stages. Our week follows this arc — from arrival on Saturday to the close on Friday.

Phase 1

Easing in

The body winds down instead of switching abruptly. Light food, plenty to drink, arriving. Easing in makes the first fasting days noticeably easier.

Phase 2

Starting the fast

The transition into the fast itself. From here vegetable broths, freshly pressed juices, herbal teas and water carry you through the day — all organic.

Phase 3

The fasting days

The longest stage, and the one you come for. Morning exercises, a guided hike of around three hours, sauna, rest in between. Movement is not an add-on to fasting, it is part of the method.

Phase 4

Breaking the fast

The moment everyone talks about — and the one most often underestimated. How to do it properly is its own expert talk here.

Phase 5

Building back up — and what comes after

After the fast, it is decided what remains of the week. The expert talks on fasting, nutrition and breaking the fast come with handouts to take home, and Natalija Vuković handles the follow-up.

What to Bring

Packing list for your fasting week:

  • Daily hikes are part of the program. Bring weatherproof, comfortable clothing and good hiking shoes.

  • During fasting, body temperature can drop. Your own hot water bottle for liver wraps is helpful.

  • Many participants use fasting time for reflection. A journal and inspiring books are ideal companions.

  • Our wellness area is included with every stay and an important part of the fasting program.
